Vehicle vs. Structure and Natural Gas Line Rupture in Daly City

On January 8, 2015, at 7:12 p.m. 4 Fire Companies and 1 Chief Officer responded to a vehicle into a residential structure with a ruptured natural gas line at 35 Risel Avenue in the City of Daly City.

Upon arrival of fire companies a vehicle was found to have crashed into a two-story single family residence, causing the home’s natural gas line to rupture and disperse setting up a potentially dangerous situation. Firefighters immediately initiated the evacuation and sheltering of five residences, also firefighters placed suppression hose lines in position should any ignition and or fire occur prior to shutting down the gas line. Additionally, Daly City Police Department officers cordoned off the area and closed down vehicle access to the adjoining street.

Firefighters monitored conditions and coordinated with PG&E to secure and contain the leak without any fire incident.  The vehicle accident caused minor damage to the involved structure and there were no injuries to civilians, fire or police personnel.

The incident was mitigated and the evacuation lifted of the five residences within one hour.
