On January 21, 2014 at 3:43 p.m., 4 Fire Companies, 1 Technical Rescue Unit, 1 Chief Officer and 1 Public Information Officer responded to a motor vehicle accident, which went over the edge approximately 300 feet in the area of Manor Drive and Heathcliff Drive in the City of Pacifica.
The first arriving fire company determined there was only one passenger involved in the vehicle, which was down an embankment approximately 300 feet. Firefighters/Paramedics repelled down the cliff side utilizing a rope rescue system and made contact with the single adult patient inside the vehicle.
Firefighter/ Paramedics conducted an injury assessment of the driver who complained of head, neck and back pain. The patient driver was extricated from the vehicle, placed on a backboard, treated for injuries, packaged and placed into a stokes basket. A CHP helicopter was brought in to the incident and was able to lower its hoist and lifted the patient up and into the helicopter, then took the patient to helispot located at Oceana High School, where and ambulance loaded the patient and transported to a trauma hospital.
