Vehicle and Apartment Building Fire – City of Daly City

On April 24, 2021 at 12:57 a.m., 10 Fire Companies, 3 Chief Officers, and 1 Fire Investigators responded to a passenger vehicle and apartment building fire at 45 Poncetta Drive in the City of Daly City.

The first arriving Chief Officer found heavy smoke and fire coming from the first-floor parking garage of a three-story apartment building. Firefighters used hose lines to confine the fire to a single vehicle and a small portion of the structure on the ground floor parking garage. Vehicles surrounding the origin of the fire sustained minimal heat damage and there was slight fire extension to the apartment building, however smoke from the vehicle fire spread from the garage level to the interior corridors of all three stories of the apartment building. Two occupants were treated at scene by firefighter paramedics for smoke inhalation and transported by ambulance to the hospital as a result of the fire.

Fire companies remained on scene for nearly 3 hours checking for fire extension within the apartment complex and completing overhaul, as well supporting ventilation efforts throughout the entire apartment building. No residents were displaced by the fire and there were no injuries to any of the firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the North County Fire Authority Fire Prevention Services Division.

The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke alarms.
