Vegetation Fire in City of Brisbane

Date: June 11, 2012

HEADLINE: Vegetation Fire in City of Brisbane

On June 11, 2012 at 11:09 a.m., 11 Fire Companies, 2 Air Tankers, 1 Helicopter, 2 Hand Crews, 1 Bull Dozer, 10 Chief Officers under “Unified Command”, 1 Public Information Officer, 1 EMS Battalion and 2 Fire Investigators responded to a vegetation fire in the area of 175 South Hill Drive in Brisbane. The first arriving fire company reported a vegetation fire extending up the hillside into heavy brush and requested additional resources to assist with suppression efforts.

The air tankers dispatched were canceled, but the helicopter made water drops from the air, while fire companies worked directly along the perimeter extending hose lines and getting a line around fire in, along with the 2 fire hand crews, gaining full containment within approximately three hours. The total area of vegetation burned was approximately three acres and there was no immediate threat to any structures. Fire companies and hand crews remained at scene until the fire was determined to be controlled. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The North County Fire Authority reminds all residents to safely reduce or remove dangerous vegetation, and flammable or combustible materials from their properties.
