On November 24, 2017 at 1:17 a.m., 6 Fire Companies, 2 Chief Officers and 1 Fire Investigator responded to a structure fire at 40 Eastlake Avenue in the City of Pacifica.
The first arriving fire company found smoke coming from the front of a 2-story, split level, single family home. Firefighters used a ground ladder to rescue an adult male occupant from a second floor balcony. Firefighters made entry into the home and found flames coming from the kitchen with heavy smoke throughout the rest of the home. Fire companies used hose lines to contain the fire to the kitchen.
There were no injuries to any of the firefighters or residents, however, two cats died as a result of the fire.
Fire companies remained on scene for approximately 2 hours, checking for fire extension and completing salvage and overhaul operations. 4 residents were displaced by the fire and received housing assistance through the Red Cross.
The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke alarms in their homes.
