On October 8, 2013, at 8:11 a.m. 6 Fire Companies, 2 Chief Officers and 1 Fire Investigator responded to a reported structure fire at the Citibank building at 950 John Daly Blvd. in Daly City.
Fire companies found a vehicle on fire parked directly next to the bank’s ATM machine. The flames from the vehicle ignited the ATM machine along with the exterior of the building and a canvas awning, which sent flames up the side of the building and breaking through windows to a second-floor office suite. Firefighters used hose lines to extinguish the fire and assisted with the evacuation of the building’s occupants. The fire completely destroyed the ATM machine along with damage to the exterior of the building and fire and smoke damage to the second-floor office suite.
Fire crews remained on scene for two hours checking for further extension of the fire and completing overhaul operations. There were no injuries to fire personnel or civilians.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau. The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance practicing fire drills in commercial buildings and at home.
