On May 27, 2019 at 5:05 p.m., 6 Fire Companies, 2 Chief Officers and 1 Fire Investigator responded to a report of a fire in the garage at 178 Winchester Street, in the City of Daly City.
The first arriving fire company reported heavy smoke and flames showing from the garage of a single-family two-story home. Fire companies made entry into the garage, located the fire in a room at the back of the garage and using hose lines extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the room of origin; however, smoke damage affected the second story living area.
Fire companies remained on scene for approximately two and one-half hours checking for further fire extension and completing overhaul operations. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Five residents and an infant were displaced, Red Cross was dispatched however residents made their own housing arrangements.
The cause of the fire is under a joint investigation with Daly City Police and North County Fire Prevention Services Bureau. The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke detectors in homes and businesses.
