On December 5, 2018, at 3:30 p.m., 6 Fire Companies, 1 Breathing Support Unit, 2 Chief Officers, and 1 Fire Investigator responded to a structure fire at 284 Mendocino St. in the City of Brisbane.
The first arriving fire company found smoke coming from the chimney above the roof of a single, family split-level home. Firefighters broke through the front door at 3:42 p.m., and discovered fire burning in the kitchen and dining room. Firefighters entered the home and using fire service hose lines extinguished the fire, and contained it to the kitchen and dining room, with smoke damage partially of the home.
Fire companies remained on scene for over 3 and a half hours checking for fire extension, completing overhaul and mop up operations. One senior resident and three small pets were displaced by the fire. The resident was transported to a local hospital for a smoke inhalation treatment. The pets were safely placed with one of Brisbane’s animal shelters. There were no injuries to any of the firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the North County Fire Prevention Services Bureau.
The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke alarms in their homes.
