On November 21, 2012 at 9:46 a.m., 9 Fire Companies, 5 Chief Officers and 1 Fire Investigator responded to a report of structure fire at 480 Westlake Avenue in Daly City.
The first arriving fire company reported a working fire with smoke and flames coming from the roof of the two-story single family residence. Fire companies made entry into the home and using hose lines extinguished the fire, which had extended to the exterior of an adjoining home. All residents were able to safely evacuate the home with the assistance of several city employees who were in the area at the time and one resident was transported to a local area hospital for smoke inhalation. Fire crews remained on scene for several hours checking for further extension of the fire and completing overhaul. Red Cross was contacted to provide alternate living arrangements and support for six adults and three children who were displaced from the fire.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Prevention Bureau and the North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke detectors in their home.
