Second Alarm Structure Fire in Daly City

On February 21, 2012 at 8:36 a.m., 10 Fire Companies, 1 Breathing Support Unit, 5 Chief Officers, 2 Fire Investigators and 1 Information Officer responded to a report of a house fire at 256 Willits Street in Daly City.

The first arriving Chief Officer on scene reported a fully involved working fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from all windows top to bottom of the two-story single family residence and immediately requested additional resources. Using hose lines and ladders firefighters accessed the home and extinguished the fire, which was held to the residence of origin. At the time of the fire there were two adults in the home, both of whom were able to safely evacuate.

The fire was controlled quickly due to an aggressive fire attack with complete overhaul completed in approximately 4 hours. One resident sustained minor injuries and was evaluated on scene by firefighter/paramedics. Red Cross was also contacted to assist the five displaced residents.  The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau.

The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke detectors in their home.
