On January 21, 2017 at 10:37 a.m., 3 Fire Companies, 1 Technical Rescue Unit and 1 Chief Officer responded to a water rescue at 100 Esplanade Avenue in the City of Pacifica.
The first arriving fire company found an adult male paraglider that had been pulled from the ocean and to the shore by bystanders, who had begun giving cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Firefighter/paramedics immediately implemented advanced life support protocols and techniques in an attempt to save the victims life. Unfortunately and despite emergency paramedicine intervention the patient did not survive.
The investigation into the accident is under review by law enforcement and the San Mateo County Corner’s Office.
