On February 11, 2012 at 8:21 a.m., 4 Fire Companies and 1 Chief Officer responded to a report of a possible explosion at the Ross Department store located at 1410 Linda Mar Blvd. in Pacifica. The first arriving fire crew reported a strong odor of natural gas upon entering the commercial building with audible carbon monoxide detectors sounding. Fire companies evacuated the store, as well as the adjoining Rite-Aid store, and shut down the store’s heating system. Fire companies also ventilated the building and coordinated with PG&E to identify the source of the gas.
There was no damage to the interior of the building or injuries involved and PG&E remained on scene to mitigate the issue, and fire companies cleared in approximately one hour.
