The North County Fire Authority encourages government agencies, businesses, schools, and residents to sign up and participate by going to www.shakeout.org/california. October 16, 2014 at 10:16 a.m., millions of Californians will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” in the Great California ShakeOut, the state’s largest earthquake drill ever! By signing up and being counted in the largest drill ever, individuals can receive ShakeOut news, as well as earthquake information on what to do and how to get prepared.
A major earthquake can strike at any time and can cause serious injuries or death to residents of our communities. The Great California ShakeOut gives people everywhere a chance to practice how to protect themselves and to be prepared.
North County Fire Authority and preparedness organizations all agree that “Drop, Cover and Hold On” is the appropriate action to reduce injury and death during earthquakes. Why is a “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” drill important? Practicing is important because during an earthquake, you may only have seconds to protect yourself before strong shaking knocks you down, or something falls on you.
Millions of people worldwide have participated in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills since 2008. The Great California ShakeOut is held on the third Thursday of October each year. Please participate and become prepared. Learn more on how to become ready in the event a disasters strikes at the North County Fire Authority website www.northcountyfire.org.
