Commercial Apartment Structure Fire in Daly City

On March 5, 2019 at 2:10 p.m., 11 Fire Companies, 1 Breathing Support Unit, 5 Chief Officers, 2 Fire Investigators and 1 Public Information Officer responded to a structure fire at 88 Crestwood Drive in the City of Daly City.

The first arriving fire companies found smoke and flames coming from the first and second floor windows of a two-story apartment building with flames starting to ignite the exterior of an adjacent apartment building on Bel Mar Ave.  Firefighters used hose lines to extinguish the fire to the apartment unit, with other apartment units suffering smoke and heat damage. One occupant was transported by private ambulance to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and burn injuries as a result of the fire.

Fire companies remained on scene for over 4 hours checking for fire extension, completing overhaul and mop up operations. 15 residents were displaced by the fire, with 10 seeking housing assistance through the American Red Cross.  There were no injuries to any of the firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the North County Fire Prevention Services Bureau.

The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke alarms in their homes.
