On May 17, 2015, at 9:30 A.M., 4 Fire Companies, 1 Technical Rescue Unit, 1 Off Road Rescue Unit and 1 Chief Officer responded to a Cliffside Rescue on Westline Drive located near Mussel Rock in the City of Daly City.
Upon arrival of the first due fire companies, the patient was located, which was a paraglider that had collided into the cliffside. Firefighter/paramedics utilizing a rope rescue system rapidly made it to the location of the male patient. After reaching the patient firefighter/paramedics were unable to revive the paraglider who had sustained traumatic injuries and unfortunately was declared deceased at the scene.
The incident was mitigated in approximately two hours. The incident is under investigation by Law Enforcement and the Coroner’s.
