Cliff Rescue in Daly City

On September 1, 2013, at 4:37 a.m. 3 Fire Companies, 1 Technical Rescue Unit and 1 Chief Officer responded to a cliff rescue at Mussel Rock in Daly City.

The first arriving fire companies were informed that a hiker had fallen approximately 150 to 200 feet down the side of a cliff. Firefighter/paramedics repelled over the edge and down the cliff to search for the hiker, but due to rising tides and steep terrain were unable to locate.  A Coast Guard helicopter was requested and with a rescue swimmer the hiker was discovered in a cave.  Coast Guard and firefighter/paramedics using a rescue basket, air lifted the injured patient to the Mussel Rock parking lot where the victim was treated by firefighter/paramedics at the scene.  The patient was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.
