On July 23, 2015 at 3:47 p.m., 11 Fire Companies, 2 CAL Fire Helicopters, 2 CAL Fire Air Tankers, 1 CAL Fire Air Attack Supervisor, 1 CAL Fire Hand Crew, 4 Chief Officers, 1 Fire Investigator and 1 Information Officer responded to a brush fire behind Fairway Park on Cindy Way in the City of Pacifica.
The first arriving fire company reported a brush fire within the wildland area behind the baseball fields in the park and moving into the Golden Gate National Recreational Area (GGNRA). Firefighters completed hose lays and utilized hand tools to get a suppression line around the fire, while aircraft dropped retardant and water to slow the spread into the heavy fuels. Adding to the incidents difficulty was a strong wind pushing the fire uphill and into heavy brush and timber.
The fire was held to approximately 3 acres of vegetation, requiring extension mop up and overhaul of the burning brush and timber fuels. Control of the fire was completed in approximately four hours, with firefighters remaining on scene for most of the night improving and reinforcing control lines.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the North County Fire Authority Fire Services Prevention Bureau.
