3rd Alarm Structure Fire in Daly City

On August 11, 2018 at 4:07 p.m., 16 Fire Companies, 1 Breathing Support Unit, 6 Chief Officers, and 1 Fire Investigator responded to a structure fire at 563-565 Sylvan Street in the City of Daly City.

The first arriving fire companies found thick black smoke coming from the rear yard of a three-story duplex.  Firefighters made initial entry through the garage and found smoke and flames in the rear hallway of the first floor living unit and coming from the exterior rear deck and yard.  Additional fire crews made entry to the second and third level of the duplex as well as through an alley on Lisbon Street. Flames and heat from the rear deck and yard area ignited the rear of the two adjacent homes on Sylvan Street and to the rear of two homes on Lisbon Street.

Fire companies remained on scene for over 5 and a half hours checking for fire extension, completing overhaul and mop up operations. 32 residents were displaced by the fire, with 15 seeking assistance through the American Red Cross and the rest making their own housing arrangements.  There were no injuries to any of the firefighters or residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the North County Fire Prevention Services Bureau.

The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke alarms in their homes.
