On April 20, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. 6 Engine Companies, 3 Battalion Chiefs and 1 Fire Investigator responded to a grass fire at 55 Industrial Way on the Baylands property in Brisbane.
The first arriving company was on scene in approximately two minutes after being dispatched and reported a wind driven vegetation fire. Due to high winds, the first arriving chief officer struck a 2nd alarm for additional fire crews to respond. The fire burned approximately one acre of vegetation.
The fire was controlled in approximately 30 minutes with complete extinguishment and overhaul completed in approximately three hours. A worker who discovered the fire and attempted to extinguish it suffered smoke inhalation but declined medical treatment.
There were no injuries to firefighters and the cause is under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau.
The North County Fire Authority reminds all residents to cut down all weeds and dry grass a minimum of 30 feet from their homes.
