This year's annual Silver Dragon Exercise for the Cities of Brisbane, Daly City, and Pacifica will be hosted in Daly City on Thursday, April 14, 2016, from 9 a.m. to noon. North County Fire Authority will conduct a test of San Mateo County's Health System's ability to partner with local cities, law enforcement, fire departments, American Red Cross and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) from Daly City, Brisbane and Pacifica. These teams will simulate going door-to-door to check in on residents in neighborhoods selected for this exercise. This is the 10th year San Mateo County has led this type of exercise.
North County Fire Authority will host this year's event in conjunction with Daly City's Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) San Mateo County Health System staff and response teams throughout San Mateo County in a large preparedness exercise, designed to practice how each group would respond during a major emergency.
Stressing the importance of ensuring the safety of our residents, especially those who are vulnerable due to a medical condition in the event of a major disaster, such as an earthquake, pandemic flu, catastrophic flood, or prolonged power outage is a key element of this exercise.
Daly City CERT Teams will be canvassing portions of the Serramonte neighborhood and the new Crestview Estates sub-division, covering over 1,000 homes to test door-to-door checks as realistically as possible. Daly City CERT teams will distribute educational information and resources in reusable shopping bags, simulating how CERT members will operate in a real event.
